Job Description

About the business and the role:

We are a thriving single doctor Ophthalmic practice looking for a suitable candidate to join our team for an ongoing position.

This position is classed as “Casual” but is ongoing for the suitable candidate.

We are a very busy clinic therefore the successful candidate must be able to work in a fast paced environment whilst maintaining high standards of attention to detail.

The role we are seeking to fill is for an experienced Ophthalmic Technician/Receptionist therefore requiring the ability to work in varied roles interchanging when necessary.

You must be flexible, a multi-tasker, accountable and have team member values and ensure the integrity and smooth continuation of shared responsibilities of roles and tasks at all times.

The candidate needs to be enthusiastic about learning new skills if required and building upon existing skills and be open to receiving feedback in a positive manner.

You must be supportive of patients and their carers and other staff members whilst portraying a calm, polite, friendly and professional manner at all times.

You must be able to competently interact and communicate with a diverse range of patients to ensure the best outcome for all concerned.

This position can be varied and all tasks undertaken will be expected to be carried out with the highest level attention to details.

There is a 4 week cyclical roster and the hours can vary to cover staff leave and clinic work load.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

The Ophthalmic Technician duties include:

– taking VA’s, IOP’s, administering drops where required, taking OCT Scans, Photos, Fields Tests, IOL calculations & to assist with Intravitreal Injections etc.

This will also include meticulous cleaning routines to adhere to COVID 19 standards.

You will also be required for Receptionist duties including:

– taking phone calls, making appointments, invoicing, preparing patient files, scanning.

As Receptionist, you would be the first point of contact for patients when they arrive at their appointment times so you will be required to welcome them, update and confirm all details on Shexie, our online medical practice software program ensuring privacy and confidentiality at all times with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

You will also need to ensure Patients, Carers & Staff adhere to COVID 19 safety Protocols.

You may also be required to assist the Dr and Practice Manager where necessary.

Administration duties for a suitable candidate:

– scanning patient files, preparing Surgery lists etc.

It is expected that you are punctual and be well presented at all times.

Skills and experience:

Experience or interest to train in Ophthalmic testing.

Experience in a busy medical clinic with Reception or Administration skills and high level computer competency would be advantageous.

Experience using Shexie Online Appointment booking program or an equivalent program.

Experience with data entry.

Experience with Medicare and DVA claims.

Experience using Eclipse.

Possess a calm, polite, friendly, courteous, professional manner at all times with excellent interpersonal skills.

Have the ability to work under pressure and be open to receiving feedback on tasks undertaken where improvements are required.

Have an exceptional meticulous eye for detail and accuracy in order to take accurate and detailed queries and information from patients, family members, other medical institutions or other doctors.

Be able to quickly respond to clinic requirements and have a flexible open attitude to adapt to all changing demands and be prepared to evolve with a growing practice.

Be able to work within a team harmoniously in shared roles and work autonomously.

Possess great organisational skills.
