Job Description

Bendigo Eye Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated new graduate orthoptist to join our team of five ophthalmologists, orthoptists and medical receptionists for a full-time orthoptist position. Our clinic is a comprehensive, fast-paced ophthalmology practice providing professional eye care services in Bendigo and the greater Central Regional Victoria regions for over 28 years. Our clinic offers services for a range of eye conditions including cataract, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, paediatrics, ocular motility and oculoplastics.

Main duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

– Preliminary work up and orthoptic assessments
– Perform ocular diagnostic tests: Visual Fields, OCT, fundus photography, Atlas topography, FFA, biometry (IOL Master and contact ultrasound)
– Ocular motility and paediatric vision assessments
– Intraocular lens calculations Assist in minor procedures, injections, etc
– Other admin duties: assist with patient reception, appointment bookings, surgery bookings, phone calls, finalise accounts, etc
– Travel with ophthalmologists to consult in one of our outreach clinics in Echuca, Kyabram, Castlemaine and Swan Hill

Requirements:

– The applicant will need to have a tertiary qualification in Orthoptics or close to completion of the final year of an orthoptic degree.
– Excellent communication skills, customer service and patient care
– Strong organisational and time management skills
– Punctuality, reliability and competency in clinical skills
– Flexibility in working hours between 7.30-18.00 (Mon-Fri) dependent on our ophthalmologists’ schedules
– Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy, fast-paced environment
– Ability to work well in a team and autonomously

The position will be subject to a six-month probationary period. New graduates will be fully supported and provided extensive training in all areas of the role. Salary will be according to the Orthoptic awards.
