Orthoptist / Ophthalmic Technician

The role we are seeking to fill is for an Orthoptist/ Ophthalmic Technician –  however due to the nature of the role the staff member will be given full training across the administration and reception aspects of the clinic and the applicant must be open to interchange and work in varied roles where needed.

The hours can vary according to clinic workload and are across our 4 clinic locations at Newcastle, Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace and East Maitland so a willingness to travel is essential. The position is being offered as a permanent part time role of approx 3- 5 days a week.

Experience in management of squint in adults and children would be advantageous.

Main Duties:

• Consultation with the patient to carry out screening tests and medical history
• Ability to be able to answer patient queries under supervision of the Ophthalmologist
• Perform diagnostic testing include Visual Fields, OCT’s,  Fluoroscein Angiograms, A Scan Biometry and IOL selections, Electrophysiology Testing
• Assisting Ophthalmologist with patient procedures and treatments including intraocular injections and minor operations.
• Sterilisation of surgical equipment
• Maintaining medical stock supplies
