Job Description

Eye Surgery Associates (ESA) brings together a group of eighteen highly qualified, sub-specialist Ophthalmologists offering a range of medical and surgical eye care. Our Ophthalmologists are supported by a clinical team of about thirty team members, dedicated to the provision of excellence in patient care and experience.

ESA is located in East Melbourne, Doncaster, Malvern (at Cabrini Hospital) and Vermont South.

We are looking for full time, part time and casual orthoptists with a strong customer service focus and a high attention to detail.  The successful applicants must be prepared to work at each of our four sites and be available to commence as soon as possible.  As a member of our large clinical team there will be opportunities to work across the Ophthalmic specialties and receive training and mentoring from our Clinical Services Site leaders during a tailored six month induction programme and beyond.

Key responsibilities, duties and requirements

To be considered for an Orthoptist role at ESA, you must hold a Bachelor of Orthoptic and Ophthalmic Science or equivalent, to ensure competence in this primarily clinical role.  Registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board is essential.

In this role you will be responsible for providing efficient, high quality clinical services to the patients and Doctors of ESA. This is achieved by selecting and carrying out appropriate testing and investigations, by following ESA’s Policies and Procedures and using clinical judgement. The Orthoptist must possess the ability to integrate and interpret results to ensure appropriate testing is completed, on time and accurately.  As a member of a positive and solutions oriented team you will contribute to the continuous improvement of Clinical services at ESA.

The following equipment/skills are typically utilised in daily ESA clinical practice:

·         Visual Acuity testing

·         Refraction

·         Tonometry

·         Visual Fields

·         Biometry-Optical (IOL Master)- including completion of checklist and lens calculations

·         Pentacam

·         Manual Keratometry

·         Retinal photography (including FFA/ICG)

·         Set up for in rooms procedures

·         Assisting with  in rooms procedures

·         OCT

·         Ocular motility
