Job Description

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH AND VARIETY

Retina Specialists Victoria is a well-established ophthalmology practice with 4 sites across the Eastern Suburbs. Our sites are in East Melbourne, Camberwell, Rowville and Warragul.

We have a large team who work together across the sites to deliver accessible eye care with the best service possible. We have nine doctors across the practices, mainly specialising in retinal disorders both medically and surgically, but also cataract, inflammatory eye conditions and glaucoma.

We are seeking two new staff to fill two full time ongoing orthoptist roles, commencing in January 2023. These positions will each be 5 days a week, with no evening work or weekends! Our practice is growing rapidly across all sites, so we need some extra enthusiastic orthoptists who are willing to learn new skills, take on a challenge and be prepared to work alongside a variety of ophthalmologists each week.

You will be expected to travel between East Melbourne, Camberwell and Rowville throughout your roster. Depending on where you live, Warragul can also be discussed but this is not an expectation upon applying.

The successful applicant will have a tertiary qualification in Orthoptics and should have the following:

  • Registration with the Orthoptic Board of Australia
  • A car license and vehicle
  • Be willing to travel between clinics as required on a rotating roster
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a variety of staff, orthoptists and ophthalmologists
  • Great communication skills with a variety of ages and backgrounds
  • A caring and kind manner, with a patient-centred focus
  • Basic knowledge and skills in retinal disorders (both medical and surgical), cataract and glaucoma

Experience with the following is encouraged but not crucial:

  • Accurate history-taking skills
  • Accurate vision assessment and refraction skills
  • Humphrey field analysis machine
  • Spectralis OCT scans of the macula and optic nerve
  • Pentacam
  • OPTOS fundus camera

We understand you may not have had experience with many of these machines or only had brief exposure, so ample training with one of our orthoptists will be provided. You will not be expected to run sessions on your own from the beginning and will only have to on occasion once you have built up your skills and knowledge.
