Orthoptist (New and Experienced Orthoptists welcome)

We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time orthoptist to join our team at a busy small practice in Malvern to work alongside our 2 Ophthalmologists. The desired hours and days are 9.00am – 5.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8.30am – 12.30pm on Fridays but we are happy to negotiate around these hours.

Clinic Specialties include:

• Cataract assessment and treatment
• Glaucoma Management
• Medical Retina
• Paediatrics and Strabismus
• General Ophthalmology

Orthoptist responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• General ophthalmic  assessments including history taking, subjective refraction, vertometry, IOP(Icare) measurement
• Ocular motility and binocular vision assessment of both children and adults
• OCT (Spectralis)
• Humphrey Visual Field Testing
• Biometry (IOL Master 700)
• Setting up and assisting with minor surgical procedures including intravitreal injections
• Some administration duties including surgical preparation and typing letters.
• Answering patient enquiries

Position requirements:

• An Orthoptics qualification
• Professional Indemnity Insurance
• registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (AOB)
• current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
• Full vaccination against COVID-19 (minimum 3 doses)
• Effective time management, priority management and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal skills

Experience in ocular motility and paediatric vision assessment will be highly regarded; however an interest and willingness to learn these skills will certainly be taken into consideration as we are happy to teach!

If you are interested in getting some exposure or developing / keeping up your skills in paediatrics and strabismus as well as general ophthalmology this would be a perfect role. Training can be provided on equipment as required and new and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Remuneration will be considered based on experience
