Orthoptist

Job Purpose:

To ensure that the patients have had the appropriate testing prior to seeing the Ophthalmologist to allow for diagnosis. To ensure the patients of the practice are always treated in a professional manner and receive the highest possible clinical care.

Duties:

·         Ophthalmic review and work ups

·         Co-ordinating patients

·         Patient education

·         Orthoptic screening and work ups

·         Specialised Diagnostic testing- Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT, OPTOS, A-scans and Corneal Topography

·         Set up and assisting in minor operation and intravitreal injections

·         Sterilising instruments

·         Maintain sterilising logs

·         Maintain consumable stocks

·         Re-order medical stocks as required

·         Maintain emergency trolley

·         Maintain and manage sample stock

·         Equipment maintenance

·         Co-ordinate with CustomCare Pharmacy to ensure intravitreal injections are stocked and patient have the appropriate repeat scripts.

·         Back up to administration team when required

·         At the end of the day ensure that all the rooms are tidy, stocked,  all the equipment is turned off and covered and that the computers are logged off.

Skills/Qualifications:

·         Bachelor of Applied Science (Orthoptics) or equivalent.

·         Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role
