Role Responsibilities

As our Orthoptist Patient Educator, you will play a pivotal role in managing Glaucoma Australia’s SiGHTWiSE Patient Support Program. Your responsibilities will include providing guidance, education, and unwavering support to our community, empowering individuals to manage their condition effectively and preserve their sight. Reporting to the CEO you will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive support to individuals with glaucoma, including prompt response to inquiries via multiple channels, regular follow-ups, and accurate record-keeping.
  • Moderate Glaucoma Australia’s Facebook support groups to ensure a safe and supportive community environment.
  • Provide pre-sale and post-sale education and support regarding relevant eye health products available through Glaucoma Australia’s online store.
  • Coordinate a team of dedicated Clinical Volunteers, providing training and support to ensure they can effectively assist individuals with glaucoma.
  • Represent Glaucoma Australia at industry events and conferences to promote the SiGHTWiSE Patient Support Program.
  • Cultivate collaborative partnerships with healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical companies and peak bodies to advance organisational goals.
  • Forge relationships with universities offering orthoptics and optometry programs to facilitate student placements.
  • Develop alliances with major public hospitals and eye clinics to disseminate glaucoma education.
  • Assist in organising local community education events in collaboration with health professionals and patients.

The Successful Candidate

  • Dedication to eradicating glaucoma blindness.
  • Warm, approachable, and compassionate demeanor.
  • 3 – 5 years of clinical orthoptist experience in private or public healthcare.
  • Registered with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
  • Proven track record of directly assisting glaucoma patients in clinical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide educational guidance and support to individuals with glaucoma, as well as their families and caregivers.
  • Openness to undergoing health and genetic counselling training.
